MODES and WORKSPACES

Versions 12 and X3 has the ability for customised workspace modes, choose your own personal settings or Full Edit, providing you have all tools available to you for this tutorial.

Version 11 has five modes.  You will see them listed in the My Workshop Menu.  For the purpose of this tutorial, ensure you are working in "Advanced Mode" in order for all tools to be available to you.

Version 10 has two work modes, Basic and Standard. Basic Mode features a simplified workspace with larger buttons and the most common functions, whereas, the Standard Mode displays all of the functions.  We will be using the Standard Mode in this tutorial. If you see Standard Mode faded out as shown, then this is the mode you are using.  If you change from standard to basic you will lose any presets you may have saved.

Step 1

Daffodils are fragrant, delicate and soft looking flowers in a range of creams, yellows and oranges

Using the oil brush, size 4, transparency 95, soft edge 50, colour  #FEF8BA  paint the flower with soft light strokes

STEP 2

You can paint the centre petals yellow or an orangy yellow if you wish.

Using the airbrush, colour #FFFF00  size 15, transparency 40, soft edge 50 make gentle strokes upwards on the petal in the centre to form yellow veins.  Change to the oil brush size 2, transparency 90, soft edge 50 and gently brush the edges of the trumpet as shown in the diagram

STEP 3

Now we make it a little more definitive by highligting the petals with a little white paint by using the airbrush in soft strokes.

Make a centre stamen with oil brush at low transparency and size 2

STEP 4

Painting leaves can be done in several ways.  Using path tool shapes or paint brush on straight-line preset.  If using the path, you must convert it to an image (rc-convert to image) in order to paint it.

This is a selection of daffodil and narcisus I used for my bouquet

When all your flowers are painted assemble them to form a nice bouquet or vase display  -   or if you've painted the outline given for March Daffodils, you can make a complimentary background.

I hope you've enjoyed this tutorial on painting daffodils
