In PhotoImpact 10 - X3
painting in 'Mode' means to activate the Paint as
Object icon which is located on the Attribute Bar
and looks like this:

The Painting Mode enables you to paint
freehand, straight lines or connected lines. Edit
Active Objects Only button when activated enables you to
edit a painted section as long as it's highlighted.
You can effectively paint over the object after
converting to an image (right click convert to image).
When painting with the paintbrushes, it is already
deemed as an image and you can apply other colours to
the painted object. Toggle Pen Eraser enables you
to erase without moving out of mode. Wacom Tablet
Mode is the settings to use for a pen and tablet.

Version 10 |
|

(1)
Shape, 1-48, Angle 88, Soft edge 60 |

(2)
Straight line, Transparency 22, Wet Control 98 |
|

(3)
Multi-Colour #082B96, 0, 0, 9 |

(4)
Spacing 129 |
(5) For this part
of the exercise
do
not paint in mode -
place brush to the centre left of the canvas and draw the brush
straight across centre of canvas. Don't worry about the
uneven horizon, this can be fixed up later with the paintbrush.
You can add more of these lines later also.
(6) Change to bucket fill and
choose a light blue colour #DEE4F6 and flood fill top part
of canvas
(7) Change colour to #E9DBC7 and flood fill bottom part of
canvas.
Paint in
MODE: see diagram above - paint as an object
(8) Select the paint drop water brush - in
circle and half circle movements, make shapes of waves at waters
edge. You can be as imaginative as you like here.
(9) Change to warping retouch tool, and lightly make
tops of waves. Play with settings to get your desired result.
You can add an overlay of
texture to the sand to make it a little more effective. I
used texture #25 which is located on the Attribute Bar,
Together with
the brush tool and texture you can paint a sand effect.
Other tools/brushes than can be used are retouch dodge/burn
and very light smudge.
Now paint your scene by using the above brushes for a simple
water effect.
Remember, this is learning
PhotoImpact tools and having fun. Happy Painting!
