MODES and
WORKSPACES
Versions
12 and X3 has
the ability for customised
workspace modes, choose your own personal settings or Full
Edit, providing you have all tools available to you for this
tutorial.
Version 11 has
five modes. You will see them listed in the My Workshop
Menu. For the purpose of this tutorial, ensure you are
working in "Advanced Mode" in order for all tools to
be available to you.
Version 10
has two work modes, Basic and Standard. Basic Mode features a
simplified workspace with larger buttons and the most common
functions, whereas, the Standard Mode displays all of the
functions. We will be using the Standard Mode in
this tutorial. If you see Standard Mode faded out as shown,
then this is the mode you are using. If you change from
standard to basic you will lose any presets you may have
saved.
Remember to save

STEP
1
Download and unzip the files
to a folder or your desktop. Open the rose
clipart into your workspace.
You can choose whatever
colours you wish, however the colours used here were: #B11C1C
#7D2B2B #6D1515 delta hue 0, delta saturation 4,
delta brightness 10, and for the leaves, #1D551D
Add your colour swatches to
the colour panel for ease of use. You can also save them
for later projects if required.
Select object, right click
and convert to image.

STEP 3
Selecting the oil paint brush, size 20, 40
transparency, 0 soft edge
Highlight rose
outline/object, and using the darkest colour red, paint
over the black outline of the rose only. Change colour to the
green and do the same with the leaves and stem. Deselect.
This is what you should
have. You can keep your rose as is if you wish, but it does look
much nicer painted in.

STEP 4
These are the
settings used for painting with oil brush
|
|

|
STEP 5
Choosing #B11C1C from the
colour palette manager where the colours have been saved
|
|

|
STEP
6
Paint inside of the deeper
red lines.Keeping to the
colour settings I've given above, gently fill in the rose,
lifting the brush every few seconds. This will reveal
slight changes in the hue and saturation of colour rather than
being all one bland colour.
Change the hue #7D2B2B to
fill in darker areas.
Smooth some of the areas with
the blur tool at very low settings. Also the smudge
tool, again on very low settings.
The dodge and burn tool can
be used sparingly to highlight ends of rose and darken inner
parts.
Then paint the leaves again
highlighting and darkening some of the areas.
Touch up tips with lighter
red using brush tool size 2, transparency 80 or maybe higher,
soft edge 50
When painting the rose is
complete, paint the leaves and stem.

STEP 7
The finished rose.
Save as a .ufo It can
then be used in other projects, or even changed colour by
using Colour Replacement as shown here in the example.

choose one that complements rather than competes. You
can add an effect by clicking Effect, Fills &
Textures,Texture Filler and choose an effect that you like.
|
|
 |
STEP

Path tool, heart shape S08
In Path tools, draw a heart shape, 3D Trim and choose a
fill or preset of your choice. Duplicate heart
shape and change to 3D Pipe in tool settings width 6 depth 30
|
|
|
STEP 10
Add shadow
with these settings to the 3D pipe path only
|
|
|
STEP 11
When you have a
background, heart, rose - duplicate your rose and assemble
them together. Add your text, and eros if you
wish. Eros is a path shape from MaryLou's
collection. Resize, change to 3D and add material.
Save the
individual pieces as .ufo so they can be used for other
projects.
When all is
assembled, add shadow behind roses, merge all.
I hope you've enjoyed this
tutorial.
